The Department of Botany at Patharkandi College, established in 2020 alongside the introduction of the Science Stream, is a vibrant hub of botanical studies dedicated to fostering academic excellence and scientific inquiry. Rooted in a rich tradition of botanical research and education, the department is committed to nurturing a deep understanding of plant life and its diverse ecosystems among its students. Currently, the Department offers three-year B.Sc. course (Under CBCS curriculum) & Four years B.Sc. course (under FYUG curriculum) affiliated to the course curriculum of Assam University and it takes an intended effort to expand its teaching program bringing together novel developments in the field with various areas of Botany through field excursions and innovative projects also. The students are encouraged through adequate teaching and academic guidance.

The department houses well-equipped laboratories that provide students with hands-on experience in conducting botanical experiments and analyses. These laboratories are outfitted with instruments and equipment necessary for various studies in plant biology, including plant specimens for study, compound microscopes, hot air oven, incubator, water bath, chromatography setups, pH Meter, Plant physiological experiment setups and Mushroom cultivation facilities. Additionally, the department maintains a Vermicompost unit, botanical garden and greenhouse, providing students with opportunities for fieldwork and plant observation.
